The Plague Bearer
Infested Cave Cleared!

The valiant heroes explored the massive cavern from top to bottom and cleared the fungal infestation taking hold of the upper levels. They also managed to complete a mission for a very unusual elemental creature occupying a pool of magma and managed to get a scroll that would weaken The Plague Bearer for when the party must inevitably face them.

Using information obtained by a dying paladin, they now seek an artifact belonging to Obad-Hai, a neutral god of nature, to assist in destroying The Plague Bearer once and for all. The artifact is said to be in the care of a hermit living in a deep forest between a grove and a lake. Where could that be?

Saving Lives

This adventure started off in the busy city of Cayman. The group had treasure to sell and shopping to be done. Winona headed off to the apothecary to purchase supplies for poisons. While there, Luna struck up a deal for the guild with Shortdirk, the apothecary owner. As long as we brought him ingredients from all over, anyone in the guild could have a 10% discount. Luna then went the armorer to commission a mithril chainmail shirt for Zyro. Though he laughed at first, the blacksmith couldn’t deny a job with gold up front. From there, Luna went to the leather worker to get guild embossed leather badges for every guild member. The group left the bustling city and headed off to the guild hall.

The party made it back to Gorakia only to find out that Rogan had caught someone several times trying to get in to the vault. Worried about the cube, the group ran to the vault. From there it only got stranger…Much like an acid trip, the walls and doors began to change. The group experienced chickens with strobe light eyes, a tentacled brain reading a book and hostile creatures that resembled giant earthworms legs and teeth. After defeating them, Orn found a talking Fork that loved to eat eyeballs. Winona noted a giant eyeball outside the guildhall and so they ran to feed the fork’s insatiable hunger. There they were attacked by The Screamer. A creature with a split down his head forming a very large mouth. His claws were deadly as poor Zyro found out. Orn avenged his fluffy comrade by attacking the creature with several critical blows. Luna was then able to save Zyro with some quick healing. The guild hall returned back to normal, or so the group thought.

The Cube began to communicate telepathically with Luna, where it used images and emotions to convey it’s story.. It announced that it was from another world where The Strangers abducted it. It admitted to being the cause to the loud humming and strange occurrences the group had experienced recently. Though it doesn’t do it on purpose, The Hypercube said it would try to keep the power from leaking over and causing the group harm. It was thankful for the rescue from The Strangers’ prison and would be happy to aid the party when possible.

After deciding the cube was best with them, the group decided to turn back to its guild responsibilities. Several letters and a box had arrived that needed urgent attention.

- A letter from the Stone Eye Dragon Hunters Guild in Tamtora came giving its congratulations to the group’s slaying of the evil white dragon. Enclosed was a silver medallion and an open welcome should we decide to visit.
- A letter from Tillian Willowbend from the Isle of Fallhollow arrived asking for an outside druid’s help with the local pond. Snake creatures have taken it over and polluted it. If we could successfully rid them of the problem, we could have full access to the city along with 5000g as a reward.
- The Queen from Diamond City sent a request for aid with animal attacks in Pintristin. Creatures from the local jungle are attacking lumberjacks ceasing collection of the lumber. If we can control the attacks and save the lumber trade, the queen promised the rare Pendant of Syrinal. This pendant allows the wearer complete protection from the natural attacks of undead.

While reading the letters, Winona took her box to her quarters to open privately. Despite being trapped, she was able to retrieve the letter inside with some slight burns. She kept the letter private to herself and tried to play it off as a joke between comrades though Luna knew better.

The group decided to start with the Diamond City’s request first. They figured the pendant could be very helpful with the dealings of the plague bearer. After portaling to the jungle, the group proceeded to gather information from the lumberjacks. Rumors were told that an elf woman turned in to a bear and mauled a man. That she was controlling animals to kill everyone in the forest. The group knew they had to be dealing with a druid. They took to the forest and found a corpse that didn’t look like an animal kill. It was obviously a sign from someone who wanted the lumberjacks out of the forest. They were approached by two bears, but Luna was able to talk them out of fighting. She got enough information to gather that it was indeed a druid named Zashi and that she was in a cave to the north. The group waited while the bears went back to talk to the druid.

During camp, Winona decided to open up to the group about her past and the mysterious box she received. She told them that her brother was kidnapped and she was blackmailed in to assassinating a nearby woman. The group told her they didn’t believe murder was the right idea, but that after they took care of the druid they would help her any way they could.
After morning and no sign of the bears returning, the group decided to take on the cave themselves. There they found a druid who believed that nature was always first and that the men should leave or die. Not agreeing with the way she was using the animals, the group attacked and killed her. Knowing that the threat was taken care of, the group left to go back to the Diamond City where they received the pendant.

The woman who Winona was told to kill, lived in Fairwood on Tamtora. The group knew they had other quests in that area so it was best to head straight to Tamtora. After finding out that the woman worked in a government building, Orn and Luna approached her to warn her. She knew nothing of the gang and seemed to be used to threats. While talking to her, Winona stole the necklace right off her neck and disappeared. Orn immediately went after her but wasn’t able to apprehend her. With some smooth talking, he was able to get the guards to back down and let both himself and Luna free. Knowing he might be too harsh on Winona, Luna went by herself to find Winonna. There she talked her in to returning the necklace and apologizing which Winonna did begrudgingly. The group decided to use their strange replicated wand to create a false head and necklace to take to the drop off point. There they set up a trap to catch the collector and find out where the gang’s base was.

Finding out that the bloody chain gang used a local city’s sewer for a base, the group immediately headed there. They fought several large cockroaches and swarms and trudged through disgusting water but were finally able to find some of the gang members. After dispatching several traps and members in a clever ambush, the group was able to get enough information stating that the gang leader was near a crater-like area to the southeast.

Now the group has to decide. Should they go after the gang leader before they discover the gang has been infiltrated? Or do they continue their main quest to save the world from the plague bearer?

A whole lot of blood...

The adventurers, Luna, Diash and Rogen finished clearing out an ancient elven ruin; disrupted with age… but more importantly an arcane anomalies that disrupted magical energies nestled within a great pit. Inside the ruins were a great many strange things;an imprisoned Grimweird, items originating from The Strangers, a mind flayer outpost, an unusual lockbox and, most importantly, the final notes from George Nuvwater regarding his creation of ‘Living Illusions’.

Several near-death experiences were had retrieving the notes; which Diash studies as soon as possible. The notes indicated a need to secure the blessing of Garl Glittergold himself to power the illusions with the divine spark they needed to be self-willed and ‘living’. Diash was not pleased with this fact, but was adamant of getting it done no matter the cost.

Later on, the PCs returned to Gorakia to organize their treasure and sell the excess. Figuring the quickest way to sell all the items was to head to the capital city of Cayman City, they headed there expecting a great haul of gold to be filling their purses shortly. Not a second after the last coin was dropped on the shopkeeper’s counter; a great rumble was felt throughout the city. A massive attack was launched against the city, originating from a gigantic creature which had burst out from underneath The Grand Temple of Heironeous.

Luck was on the city’s side that day, as the PCs were well-prepared for the struggle ahead as they fought their into the mouth of the gigantic creature itself and battled their way through it’s innards until striking the fatal blow against it.

In the end, their suspicions were confirmed… the figure in black was responsible for the attack. Before she left through a strange portal; she cursed Luna’s tiger with a disgusting cyst within it.

The party gathered their courage and ventured through the portal in the hopes of stopping the vile women once and for all. They soon discovered they had arrived in The Tartarian Depths of Carceri, specifically the layer of Agathys… the most dangerous of the plane where not only the most powerful undead roam, but where Nerull himself resides.

They realized shortly that they were in a prison for the souls of betrayers… where treachery seeps like venom from the lips of every soul here. Happening upon a caged gnome, Diash recognizes the familiar face of Xanry Shortcloak. Xanry did not know why he was there, but after some research in the book of prisoners, it was soon discovered that it was Xanry who sold out his village and it’s magic use to the Kortan government for a paltry sum of silver. Diash kill Xanry the moment he discovered this and threw his body back in the cage… likely to recover later and continue with his eternal torment.

The party continued fighting through the prison, looking for escape. Eventually they made their way up the main elevator, rising past the tormented souls of thousands to the roof above. A craft of some sort was landed on the roof; an arcane airship that Diash had read much about in his youth. Before they could enter the craft they fought the warden and torturer of the prison, Beezlebor ,who was defeated after a challenging battle.

Tending to their wounds, they entered the craft as Diash used his extensive experience operate it and take a heading toward The Vortex of Souls, the most likely place of exit from the ice-coated plane of darkness.

Reaching the vortex, the craft came under an intense and unyielding force which forced the craft toward the Necromanteon, Nerull’s Palace. Despite much brainstorming, the heading of the craft could not be changed. Quickly landing at the Necromanteon, the craft is surrounded by innumerable hordes of the undead, who do not attack the party. Instead, they allow them to enter the palace at the behest of a soul-chilling voice.

Walking through the dark and misty halls, the party comes face to face with Nerull, the god of Death and Evil, himself. He explains that he does not support Vindantus, the cloaked figure, and that he wishes her dead. He does not trust the party’s power to do so, however, and seeks to test the party’s strength by preventing a prisoner of the plane from escaping in a crypt beneath The Statue of the Reaper. He promises to release the PCs on their success… but should they die, he says vaguely, they would become ‘well acquainted’.

Whisking them away to the crypt with a thought, the party searches for the prisoner. They encounter shadows, wraiths and their greater kin which took them to the limit of their abilities. Diash, feeling that fortitude was critically lacking, decided after much thinking to finally use The Heart of the Magi which fills his blood with magical energy.

Descending into a lower area, they took refuge in a room where positive energy emanated from the body of a preserved hero of ages past, Hardik (or Haradik by those who knew him closely). The party rested up before heading through a long, thin hallway leading west before suddenly finding that it was filled with over a dozen well-hidden doors. Undead of all types poured through, the most striking of which was the dreaded Bodak… a creature whose mere gaze could kill. During the battle, Diash opened his eyes straight into the creature’s gaze and his vision grew dim and his limbs cold. He collapsed to the ground dead in an instant.

The party continued on and defeated the creatures but realized they could not save their ally. The Heart of the Magi prevented the use of mundane magic to raise him and despite this restriction it was the request of Diash himself to remain dead and so the decision was made to burn his body and continue without him… to later scattered his ashes.

Not long after mourning the death of their longtime friend Jimbo appeared once more… this time with an armored hobgoblin that seemed different than the rest. Jimbo somehow knew of the party’s loss and sought to even the odds by bringing a potential ally… and the fight through the shadowy and undead filled crypts continued. They fought through a room of terra cotta figures protected by giant skeletons, both Rogan and the hobgoblin, Breg, fought to show off their martial prowess against each other.

Entering a room with six talking skulls; a riddle and decision was left upon them should they desire to progress forward; they must release of the souls imprisoned and unleash it upon their world to wreak death and destruction once more. After some deliberation, the soul of Oman, the giant, was chosen… and Nerull’s dark heart was filled with delight.

Continuing through the doors the party is greeted with a room lit with the brightness of daylight and several demons chanting around an altar, atop it a sacrifice to some dark god. A large shadow-like creature set loose upon the party with great ferocity. The chain devils at the altar attempted to bring forth another creature of some sort, but were thwarted by strong blades and sharp claws. The battle with the shadow creature ended in the unfortunate, but temporary, death of Rogan… whom with the power of Luna’s reincarnation came back as a full-blooded orc… a fate that Rogan partially resents despite the race’s inherent strength.

Moving begrudgingly onwards, the party fights suits of armor animated by specters and multiple wraiths on their passage down until eventually coming face-to-face with a devourer. The party made short work on the creature despite its gruesome appearance as Breg leaped unto it with both blades before decapitating it.

In the next room, the party discovers it is filled with mountains of treasure; precious metals, gems and fine crafts. Is this a just reward for the death and misery they have trotted through or does the prisoner they seek still hide within the halls?
